Woman charged with spitting at Brookings County corrections officer

A woman is facing charges after allegedly spitting at a corrections officer at the Brookings county Jail after her arrest for simple assault.

Assistant Police Chief Derrick Powers says police were called to a hotel on the 3000 block of Lefevre Drive shortly after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday.

The suspect had been verbally agressive toward a female hotel employee and then attacked her, hitting and scratching the woman.

The employee called police. The suspect was arrested and taken to jail.

Powers says she was uncooperative and spit on one of the corrections officers at the jail.

The 30-year old woman listed the hotel as her address but she is from out of state. She’s been charged with simple assault and intentionally causing contact with bodily fluids against a law enforcement officer.
