Two teens hurt in Thursday night crash west of Brookings

Two teenagers are hurt in a Thursday night accident. It happened shortly after 9:30 p.m., a couple miles west of Brookings on 214th Street near 467th Avenue

Assistant Brookings County Sheriff Scott Sebring says a car driven by 16-year-old Tatum Nelson of Brookings lost control after hitting a patch of ice. The car went into the south ditch and over a driveway. It hit a mailbox and a tree

There were two other occupants in the vehicle. Tatum and one of the passengers,16-year-old Logan Stotz of Elkton, were taken to the Brookings Hospital Emergency Room with unknown injuries.

The car was a total loss.

Charges are pending against Tatum for overdriving road conditions and careless driving. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
