Two more COVID-19 deaths and a big jump in active cases

Two more COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota today. The state now stands at 31 total. Twenty-six of them, including the two today, are in Minnehaha County.

As expected with this week’s mass testing of Smithfield workers, there is a large jump in cases with an increase of 126 to a total of 2905. There are 846 active cases, an increase of 73 from Wednesday. A total of 572 new tests were reported today. Of the new cases, 101 are in Minnehaha County.

The Department reports 2028 people have recovered and 236 are in the “ever hospitalized” category. Current hospitalizations are at 70. There have been 17,209 negative tests.

Brookings County remains at 14 cases with one active. There have been 393 negative tests conducted in Brookings County.
