Two men face charges following a rural Wallace incident that left one with a gunshot wound.

Codington County Sheriff Brad Howell says deputies and the Highway Patrol responded to a call at 1:50 Sunday morning.

Deputies arrived to find that 22 year-old Austin Anderson of Watertown had been shot in the leg.

Authorities say 29 year-old Ed Becking was having a gathering, Anderson showed up and was twice asked to leave. He returned and assaulted another person. Others broke up the fight and Anderson ran way into some trees.

Becking later found Anderson near a tree line and Anderson claimed he was armed while reaching into his waistband. Becking fired at Anderson while retreating, striking him in the thigh.

Both men were arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Becking’s bond was set at $10,000, which he posted.

Anderson was released on a personal recognizance bond. He was ordered to have no contract with the others involved in the case.

Anderson was treated at the hospital for his injuries and released.
