Two people are arrested after a high-speed chase that began in Brookings and ended in Lake County.

Brookings Assistant Chief of Police Derrick Powers says it began with an attempted traffic stop at about 3:00 o’clock Saturday afternoon.

The vehicle failed to pull over and ended up heading out of town on 20th Street and turning South on 459th Avenue. Powers says speeds at times reached 100 miles an hour.

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and Lake County Deputies also assisted.

The vehicle ended up stopping because of a mechanical issue at 221st Street in Lake County. The driver fled on foot and was pursued and caught by deputies. Powers says he resisted arrest by kicking at officers but was subdued

That 36-year-old Sioux Falls man had arrest warrants out of Minnehaha, Union Counties and Dakota County, Nebraska. New charges include eluding, resisting arrest, driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

A 40-year-old female passenger from Watertown is facing several drug charges.

There were no injuries.
