South Dakota State fair strong despite heat

The 2023 South Dakota State Fair, which ran from August 31 – September 4, got off to a strong start and then was hit by near record heat.

Officials say they’re pleased with the turnout, which topped 178,000 people. That is down from the last two years. Attendance was  181,459 in 2021 and 192,279 last year.

A report from the state says more than $2.6-million was spent by fairgoers. That generated over $217,000 in tax revenue.

High temps exceeded 100 degrees for three days of the fair.

The 2024 South Dakota State Fair will be August 29th – September 2nd.
