Sioux Falls man found dead at scene of backyard fire

An elderly man is dead following a Thursday afternoon fire in Sioux Falls.

Police say a call came in alerting authorities to fire in the backyard of a home.

Sioux Falls Police Information Officer Sam Clemens says, at this point, they don’t know what caused the man’s death. He says an autopsy will be conducted to try to determine what happened.

Clemens added that they believe the fire may have ignited and spread in or near a pile of leaves.
