A semi tractor trailer burns on Interstate 29.

The Brookings Fire Department as well as Deuel and Brookings County Sheriff’s Department and Brookings police also responded to the scene about two miles north of the White exit.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says a southbound semi tractor was pulling a fully loaded grain trailer when the driver noticed smoke coming from the right rear tires of the tractor. The driver pulled over and the fire spread to the trailer. It’s believed a brake malfunction is to blame.

The damage to the tractor, trailer and loss of the grain is estimated at about $80,000. The road received some $4,000.00 worth of damage.

No one was injured.
