A Pierre man charged in the death of a Rapid City woman last November has pleaded not guilty.

Twenty-three-year-old David Shangreaux, Jr. is charged with First Degree Murder; Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault in the stabbing death of 17 year-old Evie Maxey at a Pierre apartment on November 30th.

First Degree Murder is punishable by life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

Prosecutors from the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office have indicated that they will not seek the death penalty in this case.

Shangreaux is requesting a jury trial. A date has not been set. He’s being held at the Hughes County Jail on a 300-thousand dollar bond.
