One person dead after officer-involved shooting in Rapid City

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley confirms the Division of Criminal investigation is looking into an officer involved shooting that occurred around noon Tuesday in Rapid City.

One person has died as a result of their injuries and another person was injured. The officer was not injured. The person who died had reportedly pointed a gun at police. Details have not been released.

Jackley says the DCI is working with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, the Spearfish Police Department, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol on the investigation. He says the Rapid City Police Department is cooperating.

After the investigation is complete, the DCI will issue a case report to be reviewed by the Attorney General and the Pennington County State’s Attorney for a final determination. That’s expected within 30-days.
