One killed, three injured in Moody County I29 accident

One person died and three others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning west of Flandreau.

Names of the those involved are not being released pending notification of family.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, a pickup pulling an enclosed trailer was northbound on Interstate 29 when the vehicle hit a patch of ice. The vehicle and trailer slid through the median and collided with a southbound SUV.

The 75-year-old man driving the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. A 76-year-old female passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital. Both were wearing seat belts.

Two male passengers in the pickup were injured. An 18-year-old suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital. A 42-year-old passenger received minor injuries and was taken to the Flandreau hospital. The 19-year-old driving the pickup was not injured.

It happened about 9:00 am near mile marker 114. Both I-29 southbound lanes were closed to traffic for several hours.
