New assistant to the Brookings City Manager starts work

A South Dakota State University graduate is returning to Brookings to serve as the new Assistant to the City Manager. Samantha Beckman will start the new job Tuesday.
It’s a new position, approved by the City Council as part of the 2023 budget.
Beckman just earned her Master of Public Service and Administration degree from Texas A&M University. She earned her bachelor’s degree from SDSU in 2021.
Beckman was selected for the position from some 25 applicants following a nationwide search.
City Manager Paul Briseno says the Assistant to the City Manager’s primary role will be to help revitalize downtown and core neighborhoods.
