To those concerned about the speed limit change on Highway 14 bypass here is a statement from the South Dakota Department of Transportation
“The SDDOT received a request from a government entity to review the speed limit along the U.S. Highway 14 bypass in Brookings.
The SDDOT performed a speed study along the route, and the results of the study showed that the speed limit should be lowered on a portion of the the Highway 14 Bypass. Signing has been updated according to standards to reflect this change.
As per state law, the proposed speed limit change was posted publicly for comment multiple times over a period of several months before the official change was made. Thanks”
NEW EDIT: SEE NEW POST ON THE PAGE WITH A SCREENSHOT OF THE NOTICE IN THE BROOKINGS REGISTER FROM THE DOT.
EDIT: Here is a response from the person on the other end of the SD DOT Facebook page: (they sure do like to use “!”)
“We do send out hundreds of press releases about public meetings/construction information, etc. These press releases are all located on our website under the news release section; and we also place public meetings/construction news, grants, etc. onto our social media pages! Please feel free to follow our pages on Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and Instagram for information too! (Not that these would’ve helped with this speed limit change; that isn’t something we posted about – again – as it is a paid requirement as it accepts written comment).”
