Monday night fire causes minimal damage at Brookings 3M plant

The Brookings Fire Department responds to a Monday night fire at the Brookings 3M plant.

Fire Chief Darrell Hartmann says they were called out at 11:49 p.m. He says there was a fire occurred in the Coating department that was isolated to a portion of one machine.

The fire was extinguished by the plant fire suppression systems and by the 3M emergency response team. Hartmann says fire department personnel supported the 3M team in locating and extinguishing several hidden fires and checking for fire in other parts of the plant to make sure it was completely out

The facility was evacuated for a short time. He says there were no injuries, no environmental impacts, and property damage was minor.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
