Today is Special Election Day in Brookings as voters head to the polls to decide if a City Council decision on the Marketplace property should be overturned.

It’s a referendum on a November Council decision to amend an agreement with Ryan Companies of Minneapolis. The firm was planning to buy 18-acres for 1.1 million dollars. That was amended to 10-acres for $610,000.

Polls are open 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and you may vote at any one of the three vote centers:  Brookings Activity Center, Bethel Baptist Church, and Holy Life Tabernacle Church.

City Clerk Bonnie Foster says about 800 votes were cast in early voting

Tune in this evening to the Brookings Radio stations to find out the results. Coverage begins as soon as the first votes are counted.
