Infant OK after car seat mishap

Some frightening moments for a mother this morning as she was driving in Brookings.
Assistant Chief Derrick Powers says the infant was in a car seat in the back seat but the safety seat wasn’t attached properly and fell over while the car was in motion. The baby was upside down beside the seat. The woman pulled over and parked, got out of the car to check on the child and accidentally locked the vehicle.
She called police; they arrived and broke a window to gain access.
An ambulance was called to the scene, the baby was checked and was not injured.
It happened at about 6:30 this morning on the 700 block of Main Avenue South.
