Brookings police arrest impaired drivers after separate accidents.

Lt. Marci Gebers says the first was reported shortly after 9:00 o’clock Thursday night on the 1100 block of First Street.

The first call was a parking complaint. A car had been left in that location with extensive front end damage as well as blue paint transfer. A few minutes later, a hit and run was reported just one block away. A blue car had been hit and there was white paint transfer on that car.

Within minutes, a call came in of a suspicious person, about a block away from the accident scene.

Police determined he was the driver and the 36-year-old Brookings man was arrested for driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident.

On Friday night, a car driven by a 21-year-old Benson, Minnesota man damaged three other vehicles.

Gebers says it happened about 11:40 on the 700 block of Main. There is diagonal parking at that location and a car driven by the suspect hit a pickup, ending up wedged beneath it. The pickup was pushed into an SUV which was pushed into a car.

Total damages to the four vehicles is nearly $30,000.

The man was arrested for driving under the influence.

There were no injuries in either accident.
