Hunting could be allowed in previously restricted areas of some state parks

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission has approved a new rule that will allow hunting in parts of state parks where it was previously prohibited.

The rule approved this month gives the parks and recreation division the option of opening parts of state parks for hunting during shoulder seasons in May and September.

Department director Al Nedved says firearms hunting had been restricted from May to September to avoid conflicts with campers and day users. He says the new rule involves park areas where there is a low possibility of such conflicts. He says park managers will assess each park separately to determine if hunting can be allowed.
