Elkton woman escapes injury in car/train crash

An Elkton woman escapes injury in a Tuesday evening car/train accident.

According to Brookings County Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring, it happened at about 7:30 pm at the railroad tracks on Cornell Avenue, just south of North Drive in Elkton.

Sebring says 28-year-old Linda Rueda was southbound on Cornell Avenue and did not see the train coming or hear its horn blowing. As the SUV went over the tracks, the train collided with the back the vehicle. It sustained heavy rear end damage.

No one was injured and the driver was issued a citation for no valid driver’s license and failure to yield.

The Elkton Fire Dept., Elkton Ambulance and South Dakota Highway Patrol also responded.
