The driver of a stolen car flees the scene of an accident.

Brookings Assistant Police Chief Derrick Powers says it was reported at 7:20 Wednesday night at the intersection of Main Avenue and Second Street South.

A Jeep Liberty that had been reported stolen a short time earlier, fishtailed at the intersection and collided head on with a car that had two occupants.

The driver of the stolen jeep fled from the scene on foot.

The Jeep had been stolen from a nearby lot.

The driver is described as a male in his early 20’s with a black, hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, back shoes and a black face mask.

An ambulance crew at the scene checked the people who were in the car but neither had to be taken to the hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Brookings police or Crime Stoppers at 692-STOP.
