Dead chickens, message in wax left at a Brookings residence

Brookings police are investigating a bizarre incident.

Lt. Marci Gebers says a resident of the 900 block of First Street called police to report that someone had left a message in wax on their door and a candle and two dead chickens in the snow along the sidewalk to their door.

The message appeared to have been written with wax from the candle.

There was no damage to the residence.

Gebers says the message does not seem to be threatening or racial in any way. She says the residents have no idea what it means.

Gebers says it appears the chickens had been dead for quite some time.
