COVID-19 cases continue to climb in South Dakota; two deaths reported this week

Cases of COVID-19 continue to increase in South Dakota.

Two COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota Wednesday in the South Dakota Department of Health weekly update. The statewide total is 2919.

Active cases in Brookings County increase by four to 45. Sixteen new cases reported since May 11, the total is 8165. Recovered cases are at 8068. There have been 52 deaths reported in Brookings County. The County is in the “high” community spread category.

Statewide, active cases increase by 192 to 1246. Total cases increase by 475 in the last week to 239,110. There are 234,945 recovered cases. Current hospitalizations hold at 33.

Seventy-three percent of the state’s eligible population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Sixty percent have completed a vaccine series and 34percent have received a booster.
