The American School Counselor Association has named Dakota Prairie Elementary School in Brookings a Recognized ASCA Model Program. The school will be honored at a recognition ceremony at an annual conference in Boston in July.
Interim South Dakota Secretary of Education Dr. Ben Jones, says he commends Dakota Prairie for earning this designation. He says it shows that school counselor Randi Hartman is leading a program that is a highly effective and an integrated piece of the school’s overall mission.
Dakota Prairie is the second school in South Dakota to earn the honor. A Brandon Valley School earned the recognition in 2016.
Applications are reviewed once a year and assessed in 12 different program areas.
