A Brookings woman is facing an aggravated assault charge after a an early Saturday morning incident.

Assistant Police Chief Derrick Powers says it was reported as a noise complaint at 12:30 a.m. on the 1000 block of Western Avenue.

Police arrived and found several people in the area. One woman claimed that she had been assaulted by another woman. She said the woman had put her hands around her throat. Powers says there were marks on the woman’s neck consistent with being choked. The 27-year-old Brookings woman did not require medical attention.

Powers says they learned the suspect lived nearby and she was arrested at her residence. The 38-year-old was arrested and taken to jail.
