Brookings police are investigating a residential burglary.

Assistant Police Chief Derrick Powers says it happened shortly after 4:00 o’clock Thursday morning.

A resident of the 700 block of 5th street was awakened by someone in their home who was rummaging through their belongings.

Powers says the resident confronted the intruder and the person ran off. He says several areas of the home had been searched but it’s not yet known if anything was stolen.

There was no sign of forced entry and Powers says a suspect has been identified.
