Brookings police investigate the theft of handguns from vehicles.

Lt. Marci Gebers says a 1911 model .45 caliber pistol was stolen sometime between 9:00 o’clock Friday night and 6:50 Saturday morning from a vehicle parked on the 900 block of Brooklawn. There was no sign of forced entry.

A .22 caliber Jennings pistol was taken from a car on the 200 block of 5th Avenue sometime Saturday night or Sunday morning. There was forced entry into that vehicle. The gun was found by a group of juveniles along with some other items in Medary Elementary Park. The juveniles told adults who notified police.

Gebers reminds people to lock their vehicles and to not leave firearms or other valuables inside.

Anyone with information on either theft is asked to contact Brookings police or Crime Stoppers at 692-STOP.
