Brookings Municipal Utilities to sell wireless phone operations

Brookings Municipal Utilities has reached an agreement to sell all wireless assets and radio spectrum to T-Mobile. Current wireless Sprint customers will be transferred to T-Mobile as well.

This follows last year’s merger of Sprint and T-Mobile. BMU has been in the wireless phone business for 20-years.

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of this year, subject to customary closing conditions.

BMU says further details will be disclosed upon completion of the transaction. At that point, T-Mobile will be temporarily operating in the Swiftel store location at 415 4th Street until a more permanent T-Mobile location is established in Brookings.

Due to Covid-19 precautions, customer access to the store lobby is not available. T-Mobile and Swiftel customer service will be available through telephone and online options.

A press release says BMU-owned Swiftel will continue to provide services including voice, internet, video, directory and cable.
