Brookings man injured in car/bicycle accident

A Brookings man is injured in a Wednesday evening car/bike accident.

Assistant Chief Derrick Powers says it happened about 6:15 p.m. on the 1000 block of 22nd Avenue South.

An SUV driven by 54-year-old Kimberly Hanson of Arnolds Park, Iowa, was leaving the 3M exit road and stopped at 22nd before entering the roadway. A bicycle ridden by 64-year-old Michael Kervin of Brookings was southbound on the 22nd Ave sidewalk. As the SUV pulled forward, Kervin ran into the front of the vehicle and was thrown off his bike.

An ambulance responded to the scene but Kervin refused treatment. Powers says he may have sought medical attention on his own.
