A Brookings man is facing a felony assault charge after allegedly threatening a man while pointing a gun at his head. The gun was likely an Airsoft pistol.

Assistant Chief of Police Derrick Powers says the incident was reported at about 6:40 Sunday morning on the 400 block of Seventh Street. The resident reported a man had come to his door and pointed a gun at his head. The suspect left and the man called police.

Officers went to the suspect’s residence and initially, there was no response. Eventually he and two others came out and the suspect was arrested without incident.

A search warrant was obtained for the residence and two Airsoft guns were located and it was likely one of them that was used during the threat. Powers says it looks like a real gun.

The suspect, a 36-year-old Brookings man, was arrested for aggravated assault.
