Brookings man earns spot in Austrian music academy opera
An SDSU student will attend the Austrian American Mozart Academy this summer.
Micah Perry of Brookings was chosen for a part in a Mozart opera and will travel to Salzburg, Austria.
After learning a last-minute cancellation had left a tenor position vacant, Perry applied using recordings from an audition he had previously submitted for another summer program.
Perry says, within six hours, he received an email saying he had been awarded the position and a scholarship.
Perry will spend July 9-Aug. 9 in Austria learning from the professional faculty of the academy, performing publicly and preparing for his role in the opera, “Bastien and Bastienne.”
The same audition that landed Perry a place in the opera had already earned him a place in a program hosted by Baylor University in Waco, Texas in June.
