A Brookings man is facing assault and kidnapping charges after a Tuesday morning incident.

Assistant Chief of Police Derrick Powers says it was reported at about 8:50 Tuesday morning and had reportedly happened at a residence on the 500 block of 5th Avenue South.

Powers says a woman reported a man she knew had assaulted her a short time before. The woman says the man had struck her and tried to strangle her. He also prevented her from leaving for an extended time and threatened her with a BB gun.

The woman was able to flee the residence and contact police.

Officers went to the residence and arrested the suspect.

Forty-three-year-old David Walker has been charged with aggravated assault domestic, aggravated assault and second-degree kidnapping.

The victim refused medical treatment at the scene.
