Brookings police arrest a man after he allegedly threatens to shoot police.

Assistant Chief Derrick Powers says it began at about 8:00 o’clock Tuesday night when a man called the police department and demanded to speak to someone. That person was not available.

The same man later showed up in the lobby of the PD, yelling and again demanding to speak to the same individual. He was again told that person wasn’t available. As he left, the man reportedly said he would return with a gun and “shoot up the department.”

A short time later, police were called to a business on the 1200 block of Main Avenue South. The same man was there and was making threatening comments toward law enforcement.

As police tried to arrest the man, Powers says he resisted but officers were able to get him handcuffed.

The 28-year-old Brookings man is charged with making terroristic threats, resisting arrest and aggravated assault.
