Brookings County Commission enacts emergency burn ban

The Brookings County Commission Tuesday morning enacted a fire danger emergency and a burn ban.
It prohibits all open burning in the county and will remain in place until rescinded by the County Commission. All open burning without a permit is now prohibited. Recreational fires in backyard fire pits are still allowed but fire officials urge caution.
The resolution states the ban is necessary “for the immediate preservation of public safety.”
It’s the second burn ban of the year. The first was enacted in April and rescinded a month later.
