Five fire departments respond to a brush fire shortly after 4:00 o’clock Thursday afternoon at Oakwood Lakes State Park .

Brookings County Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says there was a controlled burn about a week ago and it reignited with Thursday’s high winds. The wind moved the fire into a grass area and burned a large portion of it. The Bruce, Arlington, Estelline, Badger and Volga Fire Departments all helped fight the fire.

A propane tank fire had all area fire departments on alert early this morning but they were called off because the flames were quickly extinguished. That was reported about 5:30 a.m. northwest of Ekton.

The Elkton Fire department responded and found a propane relief valve had ignited and was extinguished. The cause of the fire remains unknown. Sebring says The damaged relief valve had been strategically placed away from buildings and prevented any buildings or animals from being harmed. Damage is estimated at $5,000.
