Body of missing Pierre deputy recovered from Missouri River

A 37 year-old Pierre man was recovered from the Missouri River Thursday afternoon following six days of searching along the river. The Stanley County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the news Thursday through a post on its Facebook page.

Lee Weber was found around found 4:00 pm Thursday on the Stanley County side of the river.

On Friday afternoon, Weber jumped into the river in an attempt to recover his eight year-old son, who had fallen out of a moving boat. A nearby watercraft recovered the child, but Weber was swept away in the current.

Weber was the Hughes County Chief Deputy Sheriff and served in the South Dakota National Guard, including tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Local, state and federal responders from 18 agencies were involved in the search for Weber.
