Crews from Aurora, Brookings, Bruce, Elkton, Sinai, Volga and White Fire Departments battle an apartment building fire in Aurora.

Assistant Brookings County Sheriff Scott Sebring says the fire call came in shortly before 4:00 pm Wednesday on the 200 block of Pine Street.

Several residents were inside the building when its fire alarm systems went off.

After several moments, the building began filling with smoke and residents were able to
evacuate before flames were visible. There were no injuries.

When crews arrived, flames were visible. It took several hours to fully extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time and remains under investigation. Damages are still being estimated.

People are asked to stay away from the building due to the structural damage caused by the fire.

Brookings Ambulance, Brookings County Emergency Management and South Dakota Highway Patrol also responded.
