An attempt is made to pass a phony $100 bill at a Brookings convenience store.

Assistant Police Chief Derrick Powers says it was reported Tuesday and happened at about 12:30 on Sunday morning.

The bill was tested at the time and it was determined that it was fake.

The man who made the attempt is described as a black male in his late 20’s who was about 5′-10″ and 180 pounds. He was driving a red Chrysler with Nebraska plates.

Powers urges Brookings retailers to be on the lookout in case further attempts are made.
