Another case of lug nut tampering in Volga

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Department is investigating another case of lug nut tampering in Volga.

The latest was reported Tuesday and had likely happened sometime between Sunday and Tuesday.

The lug nuts had been removed and the wheel came off while the vehicle was being driven on Highway 14 in Volga. The driver was able to replace the wheel and get the vehicle off the roadway. It caused about $500 damage.

A similar incident was reported last month in Volga and there were several cases reported in October.

The Sheriff’s Office is again encouraging you to ensure the safety of your vehicle before driving. Check tires and lug nuts for damage, wear or tampering.
