Andrade sentenced to 5-years after abducting woman from Oakwood Lakes State Park

A Sioux Falls man is sentenced to prison for a July incident that began at Oakwood Lakes State Park and ended in Sioux Falls.

Twenty-three-year-old Alexander F. Andrade was sentenced to 5 years in the South Dakota State Penitentiary on the charge of Aggravated Assault. Other charges, including kidnapping, were dropped as part of a plea deal.

Early on the morning of July 18, a 22-year-old Sioux Falls woman was sitting in a vehicle with two friends when a Jeep pulled up behind them. Andrade approached the victim’s vehicle, striking it with a machete. He reached in and forcefully removed the woman and forced her into the Jeep.

Police spotted the vehicle on the Highway 14 bypass near Brookings and pursued it for several miles before losing contact. Sioux Falls Police later located the vehicle and began a pursuit. That chase was ended for safety reasons. The Jeep was located minutes later after running out of gas. The woman was able to get away and call police. Andrade fled on foot and was arrested later. The two had reportedly been in a relationship.

In court Tuesday, Andrade was also ordered to repay his court appointed attorney fees and was given credit for the 155 days he’s been in jail.
