Active cases of COVID-19 continue to increase in South Dakota, once again topping 1000

Cases of COVID-19 continue to increase in South Dakota.

Two COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota Wednesday in the South Dakota Department of Health weekly update. The statewide total is 2917.

Active cases in Brookings County increase by 13 to 41. Sixteen new cases reported since April 27th, the total is 8149. Recovered cases are at 8056. There have been 52 deaths reported in Brookings County. The County is in the “high” community spread category.

Statewide, active cases increase by 288 to 1054. Total cases increase by 453 in the last week to 238,635. There are 234,664 recovered cases. Current hospitalizations increase by 20 to 33.

Seventy-three percent of the state’s eligible population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Sixty percent have completed a vaccine series and 34-percent have received a booster.
