An accident on Interstate 29 leads to several charges against the driver.

Assistant Brookings County Sheriff Scott Sebring says it happened shortly before 7:00 Wednesday morning about one mile north of Brookings.

A car driven by 20-year-old Oliver Alexander Bracey from New Mexico was southbound, lost control, went into the west ditch and struck a snow bank, causing extensive damage.

Bracey was not hurt but the vehicle was discovered to be stolen with substitute plates. Small amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana were found in the vehicle and on Bracey and he was under the influence of narcotics.

He was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, ingesting a toxic substance, first offense DUI, possession of stolen property, no insurance, substitute plates, and expired license plates. He is currently being held at the Brookings County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.
