Brookings man beaten with a dumbbell and a lamp
A Brookings man is hospitalized after being beaten with a dumbbell and a lamp at a Brookings residence.
Assistant Police Chief Derrick Powers says it happened at about 8:40 Tuesday morning on the 100 block of Trail Ridge Road.
A man called police and said he was being beaten. By the time police arrived, the 68-year-old victim was able to seal himself in a room. Police got the victim out of the residence and the 33-year-old male suspect was taken into custody.
The victim was taken by ambulance to the Brookings Hospital and later transferred to Sioux Falls for further treatment.
Powers says the case is being reviewed by the States Attorney for possible charges. He says the suspect used a small, one-piece dumbbell in the attack.
Powers says the suspect and victim know each other.
