Volga is a 2019 “Community of the Year.” That announcement from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. Huron was also given the distnction this year.

Governor Kristi Noem cited Volga’s addition of 11 classrooms to its elementary school and Prairie Aquatech’s choice of Volga as the site for its new $60 million facility as major factors in the community’s selection. Noem says, “the Volga community has a lot to be proud of, and these accomplishments are surely just the tip of the iceberg.”

The awards were scheduled to be presented at the GOED’s annual conference in Sioux Falls, on April 11. Due to inclement weather, the conference was cancelled.
