Brookings teen injured in assault

Brookings police are investigating a Monday evening assault that left one juvenile with injuries that required medical attention.

Assistant Chief Derrick Powers says police were called shortly before 6:00 p.m. for a reported fight on the 1800 block of 17th Avenue South.

When police arrived, they found that a 15-year-old Brookings male had been assaulted by at least two other juveniles. The victim had been punched and kicked. He was taken to the emergency room by his family for treatment.

Powers says they’re treating it as a possible case of aggravated assault and suspects have been identified.
