Two people are injured in a Sunday evening motorcycle accident just southwest of Brookings.

Brookings County Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says it happened shortly before 8:00 pm
an 216th Street near the intersection with 469th Avenue.

A motorcycle driven by 26-year-old Jared McPeake of Volga was westbound when a deer entered the roadway. He swerved to avoid the deer, lost control and tipped the cycle.

McPeake and a passenger, 24-year-old Melissa Pauley of Volga, were both taken by ambulance to the Brookings hospital and later transferred to Sioux falls. Neither was wearing a helmet.

The sheriff’s department is investigating.

Brookings Fire Dept., Brookings Ambulance, Brookings Police Dept. and South Dakota Highway Patrol also responded.
