15 COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota Wednesday; active cases increase

Fifteen COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota Wednesday, the statewide total is now 2349.

Active cases in Brookings County increase by 19 to 169. Twenty-three new cases reported Wednesday. The total is now 5389. Recovered cases are at 5179. There have been 41 deaths in Brookings County. The County is in the “high” community spread category.

Statewide, active cases increase by 444 to 7222. Total cases increase by 936 to 167,144. There are 157,573 recovered cases. Current hospitalizations increase by six to 249.

Sixty-four-percent of the state’s eligible population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. The way the state calculates the vaccination percentage has been changed to reflect the fact that children ages five to eleven are now also vaccine-eligible.
