Brookings girl injured in Monday car/bicycle accident

A Brookings girl is injured in a Monday morning car / bicycle accident.

Assistant Police Chief Derrick Powers says it happened about 7:45 a.m. at Main Avenue South and 2nd Street. South.

Powers says an SUV driven by 39-year-old Rachel Busmann of Brookings was waiting to turn east onto Second Street from Main Avenue. When the light turned green, Busmann made the left turn and collided with the westbound bicycle, which was being ridden by an 11-year-old girl.

According to a witness, the bicyclist did not stop for the red light.

The girl was taken by ambulance to the Brookings Hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening.
